A recap of Techfest 2022

After hosting almost 30 events this semester in total, the Entertainment Committee (EC) celebrated the end of the semester with their biggest on-campus event of the year: Techfest.

College/school and major/minors: I was a part of SES for my major in computer science.

Plans after graduation: After I graduate, I will intern with Amazon this summer as a Software Development Engineer Intern, followed by returning to receive a degree through Stevens AMP in computer science with a certificate in machine learning.

Organ donation awareness month

April is National Donate Life Month which attempts to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation. 

The first successful solid organ transplant was a kidney transplant performed by Doctor E.

The end of winter

According to The Washington Post’s analysis of NOAA’s and NASA’s temperature databases, the winter will eventually fade away. In the United States, Alaska is the number one state for the fast rise in the average temperature and New Jersey is following right behind. 

Updated masking guidelines by the CDC

The CDC has updated masking guidelines. As of April 18, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) require “the wearing of masks by people on public transportation conveyances or on the premises of transportation hubs to prevent spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.”

Scientist takes the first steps to creating hypoallergenic cats with CRISPR

A U.S.–based company, InBio, has recently identified the genes in cats that cause allergic reactions called CH1 and CH2. The biopharmaceutical research company achieved this by deleting the genes from cat cells using CRISPR gene-editing technology and believes that this is the first step in creating hypoallergenic cats.
