Dear fellow community members of Stevens Institute of Technology,
As recent graduates of Stevens, we are filled with great anguish as Stevens Institute of Technology’s administration, Stevens’ Student Government Association (SGA), and the SGA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility (DEIBA) committee attempt to end the 2021-instituted boycott of Gianforte Family Hall (GFH).
The truth about American private universities is that they rely heavily on alumni donations. Recently in the news, we can see the damage that has been done to universities, in particular the Ivy League, where alleged widespread antisemitism has caused alumni to retract their donations.
This past summer, students pushed again for the renaming of Gianforte Family Hall (GFH), an initiative that has been of student concern since the naming of the building was announced in 2017.
As a part of this summer’s student-led activism pushing for the renaming of Gianforte Family Hall, student organizations are uniting together and taking a pledge to boycott the building.
In recent weeks, many Stevens students have turned to social media platforms to call for Stevens to rename Gianforte Family Hall (GFH).
This summer, students are again advocating for Stevens to rename Gianforte Family Hall (GFH) through a change.org petition and other initiatives happening primarily through social media.
This summer, students are again pushing for Gianforte Family Hall (GFH) to be renamed. Also known as the Gateway Academic Center, GFH was named in 2017 after Montana Governor Greg Gianforte ‘83 due to sizable donations he made to Stevens.
On December 10th, I took a risk I can say is the largest I have ever taken in my life.
