Piskies Skare House returns!

With Halloween just around the corner, some upperclassmen of Stevens may notice the return of a well-known, highly attended, and spooktacular event back on campus. After a multi-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the famous Phi Sigma Kappa (Piskies) Skare House is returning! This year, the event will be held Saturday, October 29, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. With the help of Sigma Delta Tau sorority and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, the house will be more conservative earlier in the evening for the Trick-or-Treater kids of Hoboken to enjoy. However, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., the house will be open for Stevens students, with much spookier attractions. The entire event is run by Piskies to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

The Skare House is a unique occasion here at Stevens. It is one of the most anticipated student-run Halloween events of the season, being a fraternity-organized event rather than done by the school. The Stute was able to conduct an email interview with Phi Sigma Kappa’s Vice President, James Johnsen, who is also the organizer of this event. Johnsen has been working tirelessly since August of this year to prepare for the Skare House this season, on top of school work and duties as Phi Sigma’s Vice President. It is not only his but Piskies’ first Skare house in three years due to COVID-19 restriction policies.

In addition to being an exceptional event popular with students both within and outside of Greek life here at Stevens, the Piskies Skare House is organized as a charity fundraiser. The money collected during the event gets donated to the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is an international organization that provides training, events, and competitions for those with disabilities who want to participate in sports. The organization is held in the same regard as the International Olympic Committee and is a great cause to donate to.

In Johnson’s words, “this year’s Skare House will be our most successful one yet!” To find out, head to the Piskies’s house this Saturday to have a spooky time, and be sure to donate to their cause: the Special Olympics.
