Over 1,000 donors contribute to Stevens Day of Giving

From April 21-22, 2021, donors contributed to Stevens Day of Giving which resulted in over $575,000 in donations. Raising awareness about the achievements of Stevens students within the School of Engineering & Science, the two-day event included participation from over 1,000 members of the Stevens community. Alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff were brought together with the common goal of supporting Stevens students.

According to Sarah Wells, Director of Impact Giving, the event surpassed the goal of 300 donors with more than 1,000 donors contributing to the 1,100 gifts received. Furthermore, Frank Semcer ’65, Tom Corcoran ’67, and Lisa Mascolo ’82, members of the Board of Trustees, matched Day of Giving donations up to $150,000. These donations in total translated to over $575,000 in support of various causes pertaining to Stevens students.

Donors were able to direct their gifts towards a specific section of Stevens, ranging from supporting research and student scholarships to aiding the Stevens Rises Relief Fund. A list of initiatives can be found here

During the COVID-19 crisis, the Stevens Rises Relief Fund has been providing aid to Stevens students who are experiencing hardships. This campaign was one of the key initiatives that donors could contribute to during the Stevens Day of Giving. In respect to the effort being made, Wells commented, “All contributions to the Stevens Rises Relief Fund have helped students who struggle to afford housing, transportation, basic needs, required resources for remote learning, or who are facing other unforeseen personal financial difficulties.” The fund provides Impact Grants when traditional financial aid is not an option. This is especially relevant as the pandemic has impacted students who previously would not have qualified for aid. Donations are continually accepted by the Stevens Rises Relief Fund.

Donations made during Stevens Day of Giving helped reach the larger goal of The Power of Stevens campaign. As an ongoing eight-year effort, The Power of Stevens campaign is dedicated to “enabling student success, promoting faculty excellence and creating a vibrant campus.” Donations to the campaign have been used to fund newly established scholarships, additional classrooms, and leadership positions. Additionally, donations have supported the ongoing construction of the University Center Complex. Wells referenced that due to an influx of support during the Stevens Day of Giving, overall donations have officially exceeded administration’s goal of $200 million, finishing with $200.6 million in donations.

After success with this year’s Stevens Day of Giving, plans are already underway for next year.
