Proving ourselves wrong in the best ways

Dear seniors: I’d like to flashback to spring of 2022. Many of us were knee-deep in finals, struggling to finish the semester.

Tár: an unreliable narrator (My Favorite!!)

I like to think I’m pretty well-versed in movie genres. I’ll watch pretty much anything and, although I may not enjoy everything I watch, I can always appreciate it.

Aftersun: the hidden gem of 2023 cinema

At this point, I will watch anything that A24 puts out. From Hereditary to Uncut Gems to Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, even if I don’t fully understand or enjoy every one of their films, I always leave with something to think about or am impressed by a new film technique I’ve never quite seen done before.

A sequel 13 years in the making: Avatar: The Way of Water

To be entirely honest, I was unsure about how I would like the new Avatar. Although I appreciated the beauty of the first movie, I felt like they focused entirely too much on the politics of the story and should’ve spent more time discovering the world of Pandora.

An underappreciated classic: Friday the 13th

Yes, I know Halloween was two weeks ago. But I’m still not over fall and I’m getting stressed by all the stores already playing Christmas music.

The “kids” movie that scared adults: Coraline

To this day, I still have some friends that won’t watch Coraline. And honestly, I don’t blame them. Even though it’s technically described as a children’s movie and I first watched it in elementary school, the underlying themes of this movie are anything but childish.

The horror movie of the year: Smile

Let me start off by saying that the marketing for this movie has been 10/10 from the start. The first teaser trailer had no words and only showed a man sitting on a hospital bed, smiling creepily.
