According to Mayor Ravi Bhalla’s daily briefings, the number of lab-confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Hoboken has grown to 40. On Wednesday, March 25, 11 new individuals tested positive. In his statement, the Mayor explains that, as testing becomes more accessible, the number of cases will continue to grow.
Mayor Bhalla praised Hoboken residents for their efforts to help one another. The Hoboken Shelter, St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church, and other organizations have worked to feed the community’s homeless population. In order to continue aiding the community through this pandemic, the Hoboken Community Center and City Council have announced the formation of a food pantry. The mayor stated that those interested in volunteering at the food pantry should call 551-285-6444, or email hobokenfoodnow@gmail.com. Additionally, the newly-opened testing center in Secaucus is seeking medical and non-medical volunteers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to schedule appointments through a local call center. Those interested in this volunteering opportunity should email cbutieb@hudsonregionalhealth.org.
In order to slow the infection rate, Mayor Bhalla has once again requested that Hoboken residents remain under self-quarantine, as requested by Governor Murphy and Governor Cuomo. He asks residents to limit non-essential travel and avoid commuting to New York City if possible. Instead, residents should attempt to work from home and limit excursions as much as possible. As a reminder, all door-to-door soliciting is prohibited. If you hear or see solicitors, the mayor’s office requests that you call the Hoboken Police Department.
