Culinary Society transforms Jacobus into Hogsmeade

Anyone who has visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando has raved great reviews of their Hogsmeade butterbeer.

When brainstorming for an idea for a Halloween event, the culinary society thought it would be a great idea to make a Harry Potter theme and include their own butterbeer.

The event itself was held in the Jacobus Student Center of Wednesday October 29. Beginning at 9:00 p.m., the tables of Jacobus were covered with all sorts of treats. On the far right table was a candy apple making station where attendees could put an apple on a stick and cover the apple in chocolate, caramel, and all little sweet toppings.

Keeping to the Harry Potter theme, there were little broomsticks made out of pretzels for the shaft and string cheese for the broom. Students could also choose their own wand from a tray of chocolate covered pretzels.

The butterbeer was at the end of the tables and was the highlight of the event. The society’s butterbeer was made with vanilla ice cream mixed with: butter, brown sugar, nutmeg, and cloves. Then cream soda was poured over the mix creating a creamy foam at the top.

Later in the night after the rush of people, the Culinary Society had Harry Potter trivia in order to win some prizes. When answering the trivia correctly, the student could win a package of BeanBoozled, jelly slugs, and of course the classic Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans.

Overall, the event had a great turnout considering there were so many other events going on. Crowds of people came in and circled the tables collecting as many treats as they could. When asked about the event, Suzette M. Lee said, “It was magically delicious”.

The Stevens Culinary Society will be having their next meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 12. Their next event, which will be themed with Thanksgiving, will be November 20 at 7:00 p.m.
