Loungewear I am bringing with me into winter

Temperatures are dropping and even though most of us are spending the majority of our time inside anyways, our style is slowly adjusting to match the colder weather. These days, I spend a lot of my time in loungewear since virtual learning has taken over my life. However, even in my cozy fits, I’m still finding ways to express myself through my style. My sweatpants and hoodies are getting a lot more wear than my jeans and blouses. But that is okay! I’m appreciative of times when I can dress up, but as it gets colder, I’m definitely not complaining about the sweatpants! Here’s all my favorite lounge pieces I’m bringing with me into the winter season.

My number one favorite piece of loungewear by far is men’s sweatpants. When the pandemic hit and the amount of sweatpants I had in my closet was surpassed by the amount of days in between laundry cycles, I decided I needed to get myself a couple more pairs. I bought myself a pair of men’s Gildan elastic bottom sweatpants from Amazon. I also bought two pairs of men’s elastic bottom sweatpants from Walmart which were each less than $10. In some instances, I prefer men’s clothing for the more generic look, since oftentimes women’s clothing is designed to have a more feminine appeal to it (which is also why I prefer men’s standard T-shirts over women’s). When it comes to lounging, comfort is at the top of my list. I chose elastic bottom sweatpants because I think the look of these are currently more in style compared to flare sweatpants. I oftentimes roll the bottoms and show a little bit of my socks to add to the outfit, and if I am wearing fuzzy socks, they complete the cozy look. I gravitate towards men’s clothing often when looking for loungewear. Never be afraid to meander through the men’s clearance in retail stores, since that’s where I have found some of my best loungewear pieces.

Next, a piece I will never stop wearing… oversized tees. I always say my loungewear style consists of looking somehow like a boy, but I LOVE IT! If I am lounging on the couch when there’s a blizzard outside, I don’t want to be in tight pants and a tight top — I want to be in the loosest and most comfortable outfit I can find. For me, that’s loose sweats and an oversized tee. I just recently recognized how much I love this trend about a year ago. Once I did, I went through my closet and any T-shirt I had that wasn’t two sizes bigger than what I usually wear was either cropped or donated. Now that I have realized the comfort of T-shirts that fit just a little too big, I don’t think I could ever go back. Whether it was from snatching up hand-me-downs from my dad’s closet, stealing my boyfriend’s T-shirts, or purposefully sizing up, I have been able to piece together a plethora of these oversized tees that I wear religiously. Do not underestimate the power of an oversized hoodie either — these two carry the same principle. Both of them will most definitely be coming with me into the winter months this year, and probably for many years to come!

Another specific piece I am a huge fan of wearing is quarter zip polar fleeces! The fleece material paired with any stylish design of clothing is surely an essential during the cold, brittle days of winter. Take Patagonias for example, their standard design is a quarter zip style made of the coziest fleece material. However, Patagonia is unique in the fact that instead of a typical zipper on their fleeces, they have a Henley style top with buttons. Any fleece is comfy though, to be honest with you. One I cannot stop wearing is a hunter green vintage quarter zip fleece from Timberland. I say vintage because this thing is OLD; its quality still holds though! My dad used to wear it back when he was in high school, then he gave it to my mom, and now I wear it. But it is one of the comfiest things I own. Catch me wearing it all winter long.

Finally, a piece that just a few years ago came back into style, the jogger pant. Ah, who doesn’t love a good jogger? Similar to the elastic bottom sweatpants, these pants offer everything from style to comfort. The difference between the two for me is that joggers tend to thin out below the knee before cinching at the ankle, while elastic bottom sweatpants are decently baggy until they are suddenly tight at the ankle. Sweatpant joggers are super cozy and oftentimes for me, a more acceptable item to leave the house in compared to baggy sweatpants. They are usually categorized under athleisure; however, athletic brands even have joggers that are designed for working out. For me, I definitely do not need to be in the gym to reap the benefits of these cozy and casual pants — sitting nestled up on my couch with hot cocoa will do just fine! I have been wearing joggers ever since they re-emerged into the fashion world and I am certainly not leaving them behind this winter.

As you begin your Christmas shopping, do not leave yourself behind; stock up on all the best loungewear pieces. I could not make it through winter without all these to keep me warm and cozy. Stocked up with all my favorites, I am as ready as I will ever be for the cold weather… cue the Christmas music!
