Stevens announces two additional COVID-19 cases and updates on the others

Since the writing of this article, three additional cases have been confirmed, bringing Stevens’ total confirmed cases to 11.

As of now,  two additional students have tested positive for COVID-19, the seventh and eighth member of the Stevens community to do so. It has been found that both students have not been on campus for multiple weeks; however, the same protocols will be taken.

Two other students and one staff member have, thankfully, recovered from COVID-19 and are currently waiting for clearance from their medical professionals to end their self-isolation. One student and one staff member are currently recovering in their own homes, while another staff member is currently hospitalized and stable.

Cleaning staff of 5 Marine View Plaza have been entering tenant spaces, including spaces used by the Finance offices of Stevens to perform periodic cleaning checks throughout the building. Two members of this staff have been found to have symptoms of COVID-19. As of now, Stevens has notified the Hoboken Health Department and anticipates that all health agencies will follow their establish protocols; however, Marine View Plaza informed Stevens that they have disinfected the building. Staff members who have work in the Finance offices or have visited in the last 14 days have been advised to monitor their health. If they develop COVID-19 symptoms, they must self isolate and contact their health professional.

With this, it cannot be stressed enough how crucial it is to keep health and safety a top priority for every individual. The State of New Jersey and the City of Hoboken are highly recommending that everyone wear face covers when outside and maintain social distancing. Residents are also advised not to purchase medical-grade face masks as this will impact the availability of these masks for medical professionals.

Visit the CDC website for instruction on how to make a personal face mask and how to wear it properly. Wearing a mask will not completely prevent the chances of getting COVID-19; the best thing we can all do right now is stay at home.
