The Stute’s coverage on The Wraparound Building is misleading

The Sept. 20 piece, “Preparing for the next new building: The Academic Wraparound Building,” misleads readers about the construction timeline of this project.

Here are the facts: During my written interview with The Stute, I explicitly shared that we were granted a two-year extension to start construction on the project, which was originally slated to begin spring 2020. Given that we are just completing the Gateway Academic Center and construction has just started on the Student Housing / University Center, we put the Wraparound Building on hold.

I was disappointed to see that instead of including this context, the article said construction “might begin as soon as May 2020 or as late as May 2022.”

We requested the extension so that we can continue to balance the needs of our current students with those of our growing university. We are planning to wait until all other construction is complete or nearing completion to ensure we are creating as little disruption as possible for our campus community.

Going forward, I would appreciate it if The Stute would stick to the facts, rather than omitting information that would paint a clear and accurate narrative of the construction boom on campus.
