The Field Hockey Ducks’ second home game evens their record at two

Coming off a win away from home against William Paterson University, the Field Hockey team looked to better their winning record against Stockton.

Entering the first quarter of play, the Ducks were prepared. With good attack to start the game, Ireland Fawney almost opened the score. Despite her missed effort, a penalty in the first six minutes gave Stevens a wonderful opportunity to take the lead. From the spot, the penalty was scored by Skylar Migliaccio and gave the Ducks a very early lead.

As the first quarter was winding down, Stevens strived to double their advantage. A brilliant run from Jaymie Fiebel, swerving through Stockton defenders, resulted in a shot that turned assist as Brynn Froelich tapped in the second goal for Stevens to end the first quarter 2-0.

The second quarter started pretty evenly as Stevens tried to keep their lead and hold Stockton back, but a fantastic goal by a Stockton player from outside the box cut Stevens’ lead in half. The Duck defense kept their lead at one before the third quarter.

As the third quarter carried on, Stockton dominated the chances, and after two fantastic saves by Emily Franco, Stevens kept their lead. As the pressure continued to mount, a shot from Stockton off a corner tied the game. A Stockton-dominated third quarter had the momentum on Stockton’s side going into the fourth quarter.

It was a deadlocked fourth period as both teams tried to take the lead. Seven corners from Stevens had the home crowd itching for a goal. However, as Stevens was looking for the winning goal, all corners were missed opportunities. With time running down, Stockton had a breakaway and the Duck defense tried to halt the breakaway, but incidentally gave up a penalty. As a result, Stockton scored the winning goal from the penalty spot. This was a good comeback from Stockton.

The Ducks finished with 17 shots and lots of missed chances. However, this team is strong, shown by their amount of attempts — just need to put these chances away. On to the next one!
