This past Wednesday, the Student Faculty Alliance, which strives to unite students and faculty through their shared interest of increasing the value of Stevens’ education, hosted “Chattin’ and Cheesin’,” an event where students and faculty mingled in a casual environment with each other, with a lot of cheese. Twenty-five faculty members and roughly the same number of students turned out for the event.
The faculty members spanned across a wide variety of departments, and they were all eager to learn more about their students. In fact, so many faculty members supported the message behind the SFA that at times throughout the event, they outnumbered the students. The two groups bonded over everything from research, to culture, to building trees.
The SFA has been on the rise this year. The sudden traction that SFA has gained is largely a result of Ben Reydel, the organization’s current president. He jump-started the alliance by hand delivering invites to professors he wanted to get to know better. Since then, the organization has only grown in magnitude as more and more professors and students begin to take interest. There are no signs of this growth slowing either. SFA has plans for numerous different events that will allow students and faculty to bond outside of the classroom environment.
