Take Back the Night encourages students to speak up about domestic violence

Take Back the Night ran the annual Purple Thursday event in front of Pierce Dining Hall to raise awareness for dating violence and domestic abuse. This event is held every October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Various campus groups joined Take Back the Night for the event, including the Women’s Fencing, Women’s Programs, Sigma Delta Tau, the Panhellenic Council, and Counseling and Physiological Services (CAPS).

They gave out T-shirts proclaiming “Speak Up”, supplied free food, and encouraged students to sign a banner pledging to take a stand against domestic violence.

President of the Take Back the Night Committee, Marianna Flemming, stated that the event was successful. “[The committee] gave away everything and had 100-plus signatures on the banner.”
