EWB-SIT to host a golf outing fundraiser

The Steven’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-SIT) is set to host a golf outing and wine tasting event on May 3rd to help raise funds for their cause. EWB-SIT is selling various types of tickets for the event, which will be held at the Crystal Springs Resort, approximately an hour away from campus.

The “Golf Ticket” comes with a full 18-hole game of golf, lunch, dinner, access to a silent auction, and various other goods. On the other hand, the “Wine Tasting Ticket” comes with a tour of an award-wining wine cellar, two glasses of wine, and a cheese platter.

The proceedings collected from the event will go to EWB-SIT’s project of building a sustainable drinking water distribution system for a region in rural Northern Thailand, called Long Khot, a region of 4,600 people living in two communities in the area which are forced to spend a majority of their income on bottled drinking water, due to a lack of access to clean drinking water. The project would involve piping water from a nearby dam to the communities, where the water will be treated, filtered, and stored in water tanks. EWB-SIT has previously traveled to Long Khot, in January 2015, and again in May 2016, to assess the region and gather information.

EWB-SIT’s goal is to provide Long Khot with a water distribution system that is not only efficient and sustainable, but most importantly is driven by its community’s wants and needs. They are currently planning an implementation trip that will take place in June this year.

Tickets to the fundraising event can be purchased at https://connect.stevens.edu/rsvp/ewbgolf, and donations to the cause can be made at https://connect.stevens.edu/makeagift/ewbgolf . EWB-SIT can be contacted at ewb@stevens.edu.
