SGA Constitution change proposal

The Student Government Association is currently undergoing some changes due to the cabinet and constitution adjustments that Senator Daniel Fenton proposed on Oct. 12 and were sponsored by President Matt Hunt. These new constitution amendments are currently being voted upon by the student population, alongside the Presidential and Vice Presidential ticket.

The proposal makes alterations to the names of some of the cabinet postilions to clarify roles and responsibilities for the general student body. Some of these changes include the renaming of Chairman of Committee of Student Interests, commonly abbreviated to CCSI, to Vice President of Student Affairs, alongside the renaming of Treasurer to Vice President of Finance.

The bill creates a cabinet position in the current Academic Affairs committee. Additionally, several committees will be established under the new position, all to allow the committee to achieve larger goals. The new cabinet position will collaborate with the Student Faculty Alliance and the Student Advisory board as these two boards currently act as liaisons between the students and faculty. The new position will also be in charge of creating the Committee on Academic Rights and the Curriculum Advancement Committee. These intend to represent the concerns and needs of the Stevens population, as well as uphold the Honor System.

Those looking for more details on the proposed bill are advised to visit stevens.edu/vote to look at the amendment changes. For the bill to pass, at least one-third of the student body needs to vote and, of that amount, two-thirds needs to vote in favor of the bill. Voting is open now at stevens.edu/vote and closes on Nov. 14 at 9 a.m..
