Celebrating Dia De Los Muertos with the LAA

The Latin American Association (LAA) hosted a celebration for Dia de los Muertos at Jacobus Lounge on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 9:00 pm. Literally meaning “day of the dead”, Dia de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated by the Hispanic community around the world, traditionally on the day after Halloween. It is a two day occasion to honor passed loved ones and support their spiritual journey by creating beautiful altars and having their favorite food.

Decorated with colorful skulls and flowers, the party featured mouth-watering churros, music, dancing, and a photo booth. “This is a widely celebrated event in the South and Central American culture, and we’re just trying to bring awareness about it here in North America,” said a cheerful Romulo Quiliche, President of LAA. Attendees could also paint sugar skulls, which could be either taken home or eaten there.
