Presidential race enters the homestretch

Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton are fighting hard to prove to the American people that they deserve the chance to serve the American people. In the week since the final presidential debate, there have been many new revelations coming from both sides. Trump has been gaining momentum according to recent polls, as since he laid out a “contract” with the American people regarding his plans for his first 100 days in office. However, his campaign is still dragged down by his off-the-cuff remarks. On the other side, Clinton has been campaigning, but at the same time, Clinton continues to deal with more WikiLeaks emails and Project Veritas videos. The polls make this race too close to call, especially when the polls are applied to the electoral college.

Trump has been fighting hard this week in the key swing state of Florida. Without the state of Florida, Trump will likely lose the election. Trump has continued to put out his “contract” with the American people, which includes going after Washington corruption, border security, repealing the Affordable Care Act, and tax cuts. However, since the debate, the media has focused on whether or not Trump would accept the results of the election. According to his campaign team, Trump meant to say that he was not going to accept the results if the election was too close to call. Critics continue to slam Trump, saying that his remarks would be political suicide for any normal candidate.

Clinton has continued to run her campaign in the same method. Although Clinton may not be holding as many rallies as Trump, she has her campaign partners including President Barack Obama, as well as Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders campaigning for her. Clinton’s campaign team has had to deal with a lot of damaging information over the past week. This week, WikiLeaks released thousands of new emails from her campaign manager, John Podesta. These emails hurt both her and the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Additionally, Project Veritas videos accuse Clinton and Donna Brazile, the DNC chair, of Federal Election Committee violations. Howcver, as the whole videos have not been released, they may have been taken out of context.

The electoral college will decide who wins the race for the presidency. However, this election, there are more swing states – like Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania – in play then ever before. As Clinton has strong support in large states like New York and California, she is closer to the majority number of votes. Trump has to make up a lot of ground to win the majority of these battleground states. According to polls, Trump is leading in a few battleground states, but he is still within the margin of error. It is likely that this race will come down to just a few swing states. This election will run up to the moment that the final polls close on November 8.
