Eora 3D’s developers ran into a problem: Finding an affordable yet effective 3D scanner. Unable to find one, they have decided to create one themselves. This unique start up team is revolutionizing 3D scanning by bringing it to the mobile world. With one tap of a finger, eora will complete visually impressive scans that can later be viewed, edited, and shared.
The eora 3D Scanner is swiveling device with a green laser that clamps onto a phone. It uses an iPhone or Android device’s optics to capture and process data from the laser. The team boasts that this has made their scanner much less expensive than other alternatives.
Unlike other scanners, eora does not require a turntable. The app can put together multiple scans from different angles to form a solid image. There is also an optional wireless turntable that connects via Bluetooth.
Eora’s goal is set at $80,000 by Nov. 18; currently they have generated approximately $556,000 from almost 2,000 backers on Kickstarter. The public can pledge the minimum of $255 for one order set to be shipped June of next year, and those that pay at least $419 can expect an early shipment including some accessories by April 2016. eora will be available on the App Store and the Google Play Store in the near future. If the quality of the scanner is as impressive as the price, 2016 may prove to be a very exciting year.
