Apolitically Correct: Let’s revisit North Korea

Once upon a time, I wrote a column called “Apolitically Correct,” and once the debates were over as to who would lead this country, I had a special country that I loved following: North Korea.

Let’s go back there for just one more time so I can mention a few things about this mysterious place.

Rumors, whispers across the sea, hint that Kim Jong Un has been deposed. If true, this is monumental news. Does The Great Leader being removed from power mean that the worst is behind us? Not necessarily, but it certainly can’t be too bad either.

Kim Jong Un is, or at least was, very destructive to North Korea. Every Kim has been. Each one ran the country-folk into the ground by beefing up the military and only really sustaining Pyongyang in terms of electricity and food, which was never really consistent anyways. But Kim Jong Un was particularly bad.

Possibly it is because I was mentally mature enough to understand the ramifications of this boisterous, arrogant man’s belligerent stance, but even so. I was seriously afraid (not of North Korea per se) of nuclear bombs being deployed anywhere by anyone.

But, that might be behind us. If Kim Jong Un is indeed deposed, North Korea is free to start developing again. I have heard that the “second in command,” so-to-speak, has been seen in South Korea peacefully talking about a few things.

Has anyone outright said it that Kim Jong Un is gone? A few credible people, sure, but its still all hearsay for now.

But the battle would still be far from over, mind you. Kim Jong Un, and his family before him, did well to brainwash the folk of North Korea. From their perspective, they “lost” the war because of America, so anytime anything bad happens there, it is not Kim Jong Un’s fault (he is doing everything to run the country, after all), it is instead America’s.

While it might take awhile before North Koreans trust America, their brothers and sisters to the south might readily welcome them.

In my own ponderings, I wonder if South Korea, were they to hypothetically unite with North Korea, would temporarily cease interactions with the United States in order to better join with their northern half. I also could see the possibility of another Cold War, with Russia’s world view looking the way it does right now.

But, ignore my banter, that is just speculation.

Regardless, this will be quite interesting to see how it will pan out as North Korea deals with the rest of the world thinking its Glorious Leader is no longer their leader.

I really hope this is the case. If North Korea is no longer a picture in our “American Vision,” in which we have to “help” everyone in the world with their problems, then we will be able to focus on other, more serious problems, like the Islamic State, Russia, or the Ebola outbreak.

Personally, of the things that are going to be “resolved” first, I am betting on Ebola. That will hit home fastest. When people start getting the virus here, America is going to plunge inward. Kim Jong Un’s retirement won’t even matter at that point.
