Stevens Voice Studio Hosts Honor Recital

On March 29, 2014, the Stevens Voice Studio hosted their Spring Honor Recital in the Music Room on the 4th floor of the Howe Building.

The event involved students in the Voice Studio singing Broadway and Classical music, most of them soloing with only a piano for accompaniment. There was also a duet and trio as students strove to harmonize together and reach higher than they could alone.

One student, Colin Gliech, even composed his own piece which he sung during the Recital. Another, DeVon Lineman, attempted to knock out two birds with one stone. He chose to sing songs in Russian to help along his attempts to learn the language outside of class.

The students are taught by Dr. Bethany Reeves, who allots time during the week to work with each student individually. Some of the students have been singing for years, others have just begun this year, and some have moved on from their high school choirs to singing solo for the first time.

The students sung a total of eighteen songs in a total of five different languages including Russian and German. Altogether, there are twenty-three students in the program, though only fifteen students took part in this recital.

If you’re interested in taking voice lessons, just contact Bethany Reeves about taking class with her next semester. Stevens subsidizes the lessons so that all students can afford them.
