C2GS elections done with video game competition

Sunday morning, around 1:30 a.m., during the Epic Lan of the Computer, Console, GS (FIX), (C2GS), the new Eboard was to be decided. One position, however, caused a lot of strife: the Treasurer position.

The three hopeful candidates were freshman Anthony Fernicola, four out of five Heather Loprano, and three out of five Tyler Romeo. All had their perks, Fernicola was very enthusiastic, Loprano and Romeo both had cars, and Romeo had a lot of experience with other clubs, but only one could be chosen for Treasurer.

After the first initial count of hands, it was clear that the vote was split between Romeo and Loprano, the fact that they had cars was far too appealing. But the vote was split right down the middle. A second vote was called for and the same results appeared. With over 50 people in the room, it was too difficult to get a valid count. A ballet poll was conducted, and the results still, were split evenly.

Unsure of what to do, Victoria Thomas, newly elected President of C2GS, along with select members of the former executive board, approached the candidates and expressed the dilemma.

After a short debate, a wild idea was broached: Why not make a fight out of it? Romeo and Loprano seemed enthusiastic about it and the decision stuck: Instead of any form of diplomatic justice, the position of Treasurer was to go to whoever could win a game of “Yoshi’s Cookie”, an old game for the Super Nintendo.

According to Thomas, “We could have had them do more Q&A, ask for another vote, or, as we said “you guys can play a video game to determine who is more competent for the position’, they really liked that idea, and we figured it’d be something fun to watch too!”

The resulting match was fair, neither Romeo nor Loprano had ever played the game, and the two learned on the spot.

Ultimately, after three close matches, Romeo was declared the victor, and the decision to who was to be Treasurer was given to him. To nobody’s great surprise, he chose himself, and the nightly antics of the Epic LAN resumed.
