WCPR blasted its way into the new semester with its brand new event: the Welcome Back Mixer. Anyone walking down Wittpenn Walk could hear the speakers booming in Jacobus (In fact, the cabinets were shaking in The Stute’s Office!).
The event lasted a fair three hours, starting at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17. “WCPR was better than we thought!” Said Liana Amato and Uliana Dorogokupets, both attendees of the Mixer. “We danced until the end.” The event offered students a chance to dance to music mixed by Stevens’ own DJs. The four DJs that performed at the event and the style of music they played were, in order, Fernando Fraticelli playing Electronic Dance Music (EDM); Justin Richards playing House; Luis Garcia also playing House; and finally, Stan Switalski playing Electronic Dance Music. “The event was a complete success,” expressed Tatyana Fedorenko, WCPR’s Publicity Manager. According to Fedorenko, this event was also intended as a revamped and renamed replacement for the Light Show Dance (LSD) event that WCPR would have otherwise held later in the semester.
The gamble to host a big dance party in the beginning of the semester proved to be a boom, seeing as around 150 students were in attendance over the course of the whole night.
The LSD Event, for those unfamiliar, has been an on-and-off tradition of WCPR since the 1970’s. This new Welcome Back Mixer event was one of the first events WCPR has held since the semester began, and Fedorenko remarked that it was “great to see everyone working together on the setup of the event.”
WCPR is preparing for their next big event called “Say What Karaoke,” which is tentatively scheduled for March 27. They are also preparing their staff for upcoming events such as the famous Boken, in which they are confident they will be lending hands in setting up.
