Girl Talk is an Opinion column written by a current female student to discuss issues surrounding women, whether it be feminism, current events, personal experiences at Stevens or in life, and more.
One of the most prominent features of Snevets’ student body is undoubtedly its gender ratio. At a staggering 70:30 male to female ratio, men at Snevets are by far the majority of the student body while the female population flocks to sororities and special interest clubs to seek out friendships with other women.

Over time, being harassed has become an inevitable disruption to the motions of everyday life. Everything from catcalling on the street by strangers to outright insults to threats of violence both online and in real life has become an inescapable drain of energy that women have begrudgingly learned to cope with.
When I first took up writing this column, I had imagined that I’d become the feminist writer of my dreams. I thought I would put all of the vivid discussion and heated debates I have had about feminism and women’s issues into print for the whole world to see and relate to the musings of a young woman.
At a school like Stevens, people are often surprised to hear that I am majoring in biology, although this reaction is understandable as Stevens is a school primarily for engineering and computer science.
What happens when women are forgotten?
Like most people, I am an avid Disney fan. I grew up on those movies, and the characters I adored the most were undoubtedly the princesses.
Disclaimer: Obviously, spoilers for Marvel’s recent release Black Panther. But if you’re reading this, it’s been over two weeks… wyd?!?!
This is not the article I would have planned to write today. But, at the risk of a total cliché, it’s the one that I feel I must write.
