This piece this week is in reference to the column “Friday Observer,” and Eric Londres’ latest addition “The burden of the free.”
I have always felt a cloud hanging over me ever since I was young. And like a cloud, I’ve had weather patterns of my own.
“I am an invisible man […] I am a man of substance, of flesh and bone, fiber and liquids—and I might even be said to possess a mind.
I need to hear us. Our campus needs to hear us. You need to hear us. And we’re going to yell until you do.
It’s deep rooted these pains, and a lot of getting “well” was plucking these weeds and pains I grew up wanting to be, such as Twigs. A very key part of my wellness is my identity, and though relaxation events can help numb the pain, the wounds won’t be treated without specialized approaches.
Why do we have spaces designated for minority groups? After hundreds of years of fighting for desegregation, why would we separate ourselves?
But underneath the pigment are various different stories and experiences that make us more dynamic.
