As a newly elected member of the Honor Board, I have come to learn many of the fine details of the board and how it is run, along with how each meeting is conducted. In order to learn all of this, it has been necessary to attend many helpful, but sometimes long, training sessions. This, along with the topics that must be discussed at the meetings, often calls for a “day off” or a break from these heavy topics.
What better way for the board to do so than to have an Honor Board bonding day? Many thought that this was a great idea, and as a result, most of the Honor Board with myself included went mini golfing on Pier 25 in Manhattan this past Sunday.
We decided to leave at 11 a.m. and take the train into Manhattan, where we walked down to Pier 25 near the World Trade Center. I had never been in that area, so going there for the first time was definitely very exciting for me. On the pier, there was a park, a playground, and the mini golf course where we were going to play. Once everyone got their clubs and golf balls, we started playing.
Everyone was having a great time joking around and playing the game; it was definitely a great break from both the stresses of the week and the seriousness of the meetings on the Honor Board. It was especially great for me because I feel like I got to know my fellow members a lot better than I knew them before, and it has made me more comfortable in this new environment.
After we were finished playing, we walked through Battery Park and went to Shake Shack during its busiest time of day. Soon after, we decided to make our way back to Hoboken through the trusty subway services. After about an hour of MetroCard dilemmas, creepy subway dwellers taking pictures of us, and a long walk through Hoboken, we finally got back on campus.
Overall, this was a great experience for me and I am very glad that I had the chance to get to know my fellow members of the Honor Board, people that I will be working with closely for the year to enforce the utmost honor and integrity within our school.
