How to start your Hoboken fall!

Whether it’s your first time or your fourth, there’s always something to do in Hoboken to celebrate the autumn season. From admiring the fall foliage, enjoying the seasonal pumpkin drinks, or watching a zombie opera, there’s something for everyone! So start your fall bucket list with some Hoboken classics!

Autumn Walks

It’s free, great exercise, an excellent break away from school, and filled with beautiful foliage if you know where to look. While you can explore local parks like Elysian Park, if you’re looking for somewhere farther, check out Branch Brook Park in Newark to escape the college sights. On October 17, they have a costume contest for dogs where pet owners can celebrate their furry companions.

Run and Volunteer

Not only can you enjoy the lovely Hoboken weather, but you can also spend your time helping others! One of the more prominent fundraisers is the HoBOOken 5K race, which is hosted this year on Sunday, October 25. In support of the Hoboken Shelter, grab a friend or two to race through Pier A together. Or, participate as a volunteer contributing to activities like event set-up, registration, videography, and medal distributions.

Zombie Opera

If fall isn’t exactly your style, maybe you’re just dying to experience those Halloween chills. With Jersey City’s annual Zombie Opera, the afterlife will come to you! Occurring on Saturday, October 24, it’s a free show with past wacky themes from Olympian Gods to outer space zombies. So, bring a picnic blanket, wear a spooky costume, and be prepared for freaky frights.

Fall Festivals

If you’re looking to interact with the local community, try going to one of the many fall festivals. For example, on Saturday, October 31, Hoboken is hosting its annual Ragamuffin parade with decorated carriages, costumes, live local music, and spectacular floats. Hosted by the Hoboken Cultural Affairs division, the parade will start at 10th Street and stretch all the way down to 5th Street. Since it’s supported by the Hoboken Business Alliance, you could expect dedicated local business floats to make an appearance.

Or if you want somewhere further away on Halloween Day, Jersey City will be celebrating through its Hudson County fall festival! The spooky festival will feature live music, local artisan vendors, and a special costume contest!

Stevens Fall Activities

Of course, Stevens had plenty of fall fun activities right on campus. To stay up to date, check DuckLink throughout the season for any autumn-themed events. There’s a large variety of events throughout October, from pumpkin painting, trick-or-treating, costume contests, and murder mysteries. Many of these events typically come with free food like apple cider, fall-themed pastries, or apple donuts.

Something New

If none of these interest you, try something new! Walk around Hoboken for any limited-time autumn drinks. Head to New York City to discover more festive events. Experiment with roasting pumpkin seeds, making candy apples, baking pumpkin or apple pies, or creating your own pumpkin spice latte. Autumn is the season of change, so enjoy the changing weather and find something exciting along the way!
