This past weekend, on October 2, the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams raced at Lehigh University’s Paul Short Run. There were more than 550 racers from over 20 schools like Yale, Penn State, Cornell, Brown, and Villanova.
For the men’s team, the Ducks who ran included first-year Matthew Reed, who was the team’s top finisher at 28:32.6. The final three runners to stay under 30:00 were first-years Benjamin Adamo, Nelson VanMaaren, and Max Thorn. All three boys were able to shave some time off of their previous runs. Both of the next runners shaving time off their MAC Preview runs, first-years William Parker and Connor Wrinn ran 30:32.2 and 30:26.2, respectively. To round out the Ducks, there were sophomores Daniel Affoumani and Wesley Schlimer, and first-year Christian Garofano.
For the women’s team, there were only two runners from Stevens — sophomore Caitlyn Adamchuk and first-year Kaley Byhre, who finished at 28:57.7 and 29:33.4, respectively. Both runners found themselves a little behind at the two-mile mark, but managed to move up at the end of the race, Adamchuk by 33 places and Byhre by 26.
The Championship Race, which was set to feature 10 more runners for the women’s team and nine more for the men’s team, was canceled. Both teams will be traveling to Rowan University on October 17 for the Rowan Border Battle.
