Stevens Softball sweeps King’s in MAC Freedom Doubleheader, 14-3, 6-1

The Women’s Softball team extended its late-season push on Saturday, sweeping King’s College in the Middle Atlantic (MAC) Freedom doubleheader.

The Ducks (22-12, 7-5 MAC Freedom) powered past the Monarchs (11-23, 3-9 MAC Freedom) with a 14-3 victory in game one before securing a 6-1 victory later in the day. The sweep marks Stevens’ eighth consecutive win.

Stevens wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, with two runs in the first inning through aggressive baserunning. Junior Emma Quattrochi led the offense with an infield single and advanced to third before sophomore Allison Mitloff and sophomore Carmelita Murphy-Brown helped bring her to home base. Sophomore Jessica Hsu followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Hsu dominated in the circle early, retiring the next six batters while the Ducks added on in the third. Mitloff and Murphy-Brown led off with walks as Hsu and first-year Isabela Lipsky followed with RBI singles and pushed the score to 4-0. First-year Kacey DiPasquale laced a double to right center, only two batters later, stretching the lead to 6-0. A defensive miscue allowed another run to cross, pushing the advantage to seven.

King’s threatened in the fourth, scoring three runs and loading the bases, but Stevens shut the door as Riley Lawrence fielded a grounder and stepped on second to end the inning.

The Ducks answered in the bottom of the inning with seven runs. Murphy-Brown hit a two-run single, and sophomore Isabelle Won added an RBI double, while King’s errors and wild pitches helped extend the inning. Hsu finished the game in the fifth to secure the 14-3 win.

In the second game, Stevens struck first as Emma Quattrochi scored on a throwing error. Senior Kyra Fischer retired the first six batters, and after King’s tied it in the fifth, the Ducks responded with a five-run sixth. Hsu delivered a two-run single, Fischer added a two-run hit, and Mitloff drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the inning. Fischer then retired the side in the seventh to secure the 6-1 win and complete the sweep.

Stevens showcased a complete performance across both games. With eight straight wins, the Ducks are finding their rhythm as MAC Freedom play continues.

Fans can look ahead to the Ducks’ next game against Misericordia University on April 30 at 3:30 p.m. in Dallas, PA.
