Alpha Phi is bringing a new Greek life pageant to Stevens this semester!
The event, called Mr. Heartthrob, will be hosted on March 5. However, this new pageant comes with a twist: rather than female contestants participating in a traditional beauty pageant, the contestants will be brothers of fraternities on campus.
In order to learn more about this new event on campus, The Stute contacted Sarah Berger, a member of Alpha Phi. Berger explained, “All fraternities on campus were invited to send a representative and we will be having some judges from other sororities on campus. Mr. Heartthrob is intended to be a comedic show, with the premise being a pageant show.”
Berger also explained that much like a traditional beauty pageant, the brothers will have to compete in a clothing competition where they dress according to a specific theme to get the judges’ attention. They will also have to perform a talent and answer a series of questions in order to win the crowd over. They will be ranked throughout the competition by the judges. In the end, one of these men will be crowned the first Mr. Heartthrob here at Stevens.
Although this is the first time this event will occur at Stevens, Berger informed us that many other chapters throughout the country host this event as well. The fraternities participating in the event on Stevens’ campus include Chi Phi, Delta Tau Delta, Theta Xi, Chi Psi, Alpha Sigma Phi, Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Nu, Kappa Sigma, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. Each of these organizations will choose a representative to compete in the Mr. Heartthrob pageant.
Mr. Heartthrob is one of the four events for Alpha Phi’s heart health week. There will be one event each day from March 2 to 5. These include an art event, a healthy snack event, and a yoga session. The week culminates with Mr. Heartthrob on March 5. These events revolve around women’s heart health, which is the goal of their philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation. All proceeds from Mr. Heartthrob will go towards the Alpha Phi Foundation.
The event will take place at DeBaun Auditorium on March 5 at 7 p.m. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will last until 9 p.m. If you are interested in purchasing tickets to Mr. Heartthrob, Alpha Phi will be selling tickets next week on the second floor of Howe outside of Pierce Dining Hall. Everyone is welcome to purchase a ticket and attend. Who will be the first Mr. Heartthrob? Come watch the pageant on March 5 to find out!
