In preparation for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Stevens, President Farvardin’s 150th Implementation Steering Committee has launched Stevens150.com, a website detailing Stevens history and notable stories of Stevens students, faculty, and their achievements. Published on February 18, the website took “many months of development time” according to an email sent by Edward Stukane, Vice President for Communications and Marketing, to the student body.
The 150th Steering Committee is a group of administrators, faculty, alumni, and current students appointed by President Farvardin to carry out the task of gathering community input to arrange activities for the celebration of the 150th year since the founding of Stevens. An initial group of administrators and faculty was appointed to the committee in July 2017, with even more members being appointed later in August 2018.
The website has many features, including an interactive timeline, a section dedicated to outlining future plans for Stevens, and a collection of 150 diverse stories about students, faculty, and significant events and milestones in Stevens history. The events outlined in the timeline range from the founding of prominent organizations on campus to the graduation of impactful alumni and the beginnings of student body traditions.
The timeline includes events from nearly every year since the founding of Stevens and features historic photographs and illustrations along with information detailing the events. The section titled “Our Future” outlines the current achievements and goals reached by Stevens as the Institute continues to expand the resources offered to students and the impact Stevens students make through innovation. The 150 featured stories present a wide scope of what it has meant to be a Stevens student over the course of Stevens’ history. Stories include accounts of the first African American and female students to graduate from Stevens, inventions and innovations from Stevens students and alumni, and events that greatly impacted the Stevens community such as Superstorm Sandy and 9/11.
The launching of the website is part of a greater week-long celebration of the 150th anniversary since the founding of Stevens. The Stevens150 website lists multiple events happening around campus including the Founder’s Day Ball for undergraduate students, the Founder’s Day Reception for graduate students, and the Founder’s Day Soiree for faculty and alumni.
