Men’s basketball gets their sixth win in a row and stay undefeated

Away from home, junior Alec DiPietrantonio posted his second double-double of the season with 11 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to lead the Stevens men’s basketball team over Rutgers-Newark 62-58 Sunday.

Senior Spencer Cook scored 14 points and freshman Matt Crowley filled the stat sheet with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals as the Ducks improved to 6-0. The six straight wins are a pretty astounding accomplishment as the basketball playing Ducks look like they are improving as the days continue.

Leading by 5 with 80 seconds left in the game, the Ducks were in a bit of a scramble after a jump ball interrupted their possession with just 10 seconds left on the shot clock. DiPietrantonio found Spencer Cook in the left corner for a three with just one second left on the 30-second clock. As Cook converted the shot, a Rutgers-Newark player crashed into him and was called for a foul. Cook completed the 4-point play to give Stevens a 9-point advantage.

Rutgers-Newark would hit a pair of threes to keep it close. However, freshman Matt Crowley sank four free throws in the final seconds to preserve the victory. The Ducks converted each of their last nine attempts from the line. These free throws were required for the Ducks to conquer over Rutgers-Newark. Other factors also made sure Stevens won.

Stevens had 34 rebounds and really looked to dominate the glass and their second chance opportunities. DiPietrantonio collected his 12th career double-double and added a pair of blocks in the contest. The Ducks lead the MAC Freedom and are undefeated on the season.

This team has been on fire and all players are meshing in the best way. This is the best possible way the basketball team could have started the season. As a result, the team will want to continue to dominate and play their best basketball. Their momentum does not look like it will slow.
