“Hudson Dorms” is Stevens alumni TJ Stanton and Michael Guglielmo’s response to the difficulties they faced while finding and renting off-campus apartments in Hoboken. Needing housing that fit their budget, Stanton and Guglielmo believed they had found a cheaper alternative to Stevens Leased Housing in Hoboken, but discovered that “the hidden costs with living apart from Stevens and the headaches from dealing with real estate agents, landlords, and the hours on the phone with Verizon and PSE&G hardly outweighed SLH.” They focus on accommodating Stevens students “who are looking for an alternative to the more traditional options.”
Hudson Dorms believes they set themselves apart from other options available to students by providing an “all encompassing solution,” including single semester (targeted at students on Co-op and Study Abroad), two semester (so you don’t have to pay rent for the summer if you’re not living in Hoboken), or yearly housing options. Stanton and Guglielmo stated, “We pride ourselves on service; ensuring that all student requests are fulfilled with lightning speed.”
Dakota Van Deursen, who has been renting with Hudson Dorms since late August, backs up their claim, stating, “They are quicker to solve problems than ResLife ever was […] and have proven themselves over and over again with quick fixes if things go wrong.” Van Deursen originally found them while looking for a one-semester lease on short notice, and says that it’s been “The best living experience of college so far. Since it’s run by a Stevens graduate and a Stevens student, they understand what we are all going through as students.”
Hudson Dorms states that they fully furnish every apartment, and provide gas, electric, water, and internet. Additionally, they offer some unusual perks for an apartment, such as discounts for some local businesses, an optional meal delivery service, and a service to “clean the apartments throughout the semester so [students] can have a sparkling clean bathroom and kitchen during midterms and finals without having to worry about cleaning it.”
