New Podcast at Stevens: Where’s the time gone?

Being a senior in college, you may feel like you have a wealth of knowledge and experiences that you just want to share with every newcomer you see. That is exactly what senior Julian Hernandez had in mind when he started his podcast titled Where’s the Time Gone?

During his time at Stevens, Hernandez has helped lead students of all class years, not only within his major of Music and Technology, but also as Vice President of Lambda Upsilon Lambda, Editor-in-Chief of RedShift, an SGA Senator, and a flurry of other memberships. All of his activities inspired him to bring together student leaders in one conversation in the form of this podcast. The goal of his podcast is to join seasoned student leaders on campus who have valuable insight about the Stevens student experience that they would like to share with everyone. In the first three installments, titled “Breaking the Ice,” these students who are wrapping up their college careers reminisce on the highlights of their Stevens journey and give advice to anyone in the audience. So far, this new podcast has featured veteran student leaders Maryia Spirydonava, Mariachristina “MC” Todaro, DuJuan Kirk, Jon Darlak, Pujan Shah, Jake Meiskin, Grant Fowler, Matthew Colacino, and Hernandez himself.

Outside of advice for any newcomers, this podcast also serves as a way for the guests to “have deep, impactful conversations that they wished they could have had before,” says Hernandez. He emphasized that there are “so many different realms at Stevens” that he wanted to bring together for each to recognize their shared Stevens identity. Each installment of “Breaking the Ice” starts off with a set of questions the guest of the podcast can answer. Some of these questions include fun ones like “What is your favorite experience so far at Stevens?” and “What is your favorite spot in Hoboken?” but the podcast also dives deeper with questions such as “Who is one person who has been a key part of your Stevens experience?” or “What do you wish you knew your freshman year?” that allow the guests to reflect on their time at college and cultivates a deeper conversation. Furthermore, the podcast enables the guests to look ahead to their futures with questions like “What are your post-graduation plans?”

So far, the podcast has had four installments, with the first being a short introduction to the podcast on September 3 of this year, and three installments of “Breaking the Ice” every Thursday since. All recordings are done on the third floor of Kidde, as the space provides a great environment for a podcast recording. Anyone can find this podcast at anchor.fm/wheresthetimegone and on all major streaming platforms. New episodes will continue to be released every Friday, so please stay tuned!
