Sigma Psi Zeta charters at Stevens

“Sisters forever heart and soul. True to our goals red and gold,” chanted seven women marched out of Howe to Castle Point Lookout. The women took their positions in a line and were asked to recite the Greek Alphabet by Liz Kwong, Vice President of Expansion for Sigma Psi Zeta.

“Is that really all you’ve got, Alpha Rho,” interjected Kwong before the seven women could finish reciting the alphabet. “No ma’am,” responded the women. Immediately afterwards, seven more women marched out of Howe to Castle Point Lookout. The crowd cheered with surprise and excitement. These 14 women are the Alpha Rho Charter Class of Sigma Psi Zeta — Sigma Psi Zeta’s largest charter class.

The 14 women are Daniella Magcalas, Ellen Drennan, Ria Isabelle Salvacion, Nina Marie Ioanis, Grace Lin, Tracy Wong, Anjali Paliwal, Norma Isa Martinez, Alyssa Kim Martinez, Vivian Lin, Stephanie Young, Ellie Kim, Chloe Quinto, and Aimee Rose Gamboa.

The women first expressed interest in joining Sigma Psi Zeta in Spring 2018, and formed an interest group known as SIT-Blossoms.” Sigma Psi Zeta has a national requirement that an interest group is created prior to beginning the intake process,” said Malcolm McDaniel, Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The women began the new member process in Spring 2019.

“I think this is an exciting time for Stevens to establish the first NAPA (National Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Panhellenic Association) organization on our campus. I believe it will bring a different perspective to the Fraternity and Sorority community, encourage more conversation about the Cultural Greek Council and diversity, as well as provide women interested in joining a sorority with more options,” said McDaniel.

Sigma Psi Zeta did not respond for comment by the time of publication.
