A kind of magic

I don’t really believe in coincidences being simply coincidences. I often find myself getting caught up in believing that coincidences happen for reasons brought on by some universe-created, spiritual-like force. I know it sounds silly, but if I’m being honest, I believe in magic.

Every second of your life has ultimately been a factor for how you are, where you are right now, and that’s not me being irrational — that’s the truth. Even the smallest decisions you’ve made have actually turned out to be quite important. Sometimes I think about how two years ago, I had no idea Stevens Institute of Technology even existed, let alone that I wanted to work in the music industry. I never expected to be taking music classes in college, or writing an opinion column for the school newspaper. So what did I expect?

I honestly don’t think I had any expectations at all. Sure, I had dreams and aspirations, but not necessarily visions of what I thought the future would look like. And it’s because of my lack of expectations that I find myself absolutely stunned by how everything has come together in life as a result of the thousands of decisions I’ve made.

Now, when it comes to “magic” I wouldn’t say that I believe in telepathy or superheroes, but rather that I believe that some coincidences are just too freaky in how coincidental they are, and there’s no way they are only coincidences. (Side note: I think I’ve broken the world record for the greatest amount of times “coincidence” is used in a newspaper article.)

I’ve also noticed that I have strong intuition, and in certain situations, I’ll think of something and 10 seconds later something related will happen. It’s important to note the difference between the two, as coincidences are much different than acknowledging your gut feeling and having it turn out to be true.

All in all, if you can’t prove that magic exists, but you also can’t prove that it doesn’t, who’s to give the final say? My point is that I think as human beings, we’re a lot more powerful than we think we are, in the sense that our perception can be incredibly strong. And whether you believe in “magic” or not, the mere existence of life itself is pretty magical to me.
