On Thursday February 2nd, The Filipino American Student Association (FAST) hosted their annual game show night. During this event, students could compete in various games typically seen on Filipino game shows. At the event, contestants played four games. The first game, called “Hip, Hip, Hooray,” had multiple contestants call out the correct words in “hip, hip, hooray” in the correct sequence. If they got it wrong, they would be eliminated. The second game was called “love pop,” in which couples had to pop balloons by hugging each other. The third game, called “Perfect Songbination,” had players guess the two songs that were playing at the same time. If they got either of the songs wrong, they would be eliminated. The final game was called “Take my Order.” In this game, a customer acted out a food in which they wished to order and the waiter had to guess the food. According to Jazmine Binag and Eliza Villarba, FAST Co-Cultural Chairs, “Filipino game shows are important as a way to have fun with the thrill of chance that you would not be able to do so”. Both Jazmine and Eliza elaborated that due to the Philippines not being a first world country, winning a game show could dramatically alter a family situation as the game shows typically awarded more money than they would make in a lifetime. FAST’s next GBM is next Tuesday, February 7th in Babbio 304 at 9PM.
