Professor Patricia Anne Muisener is a Teaching Associate Professor and Program Director of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. She loves everything about teaching chemistry. She explains, “I enjoy when we are covering a difficult concept and students ask questions which show they are really starting to think about the concept and are trying to understand it.” Professor Muisener also enjoys when students visit during her office hours – “Office hours are for the students so I love when students take advantage of this time, especially when they need help.” She pointed out that visiting office hours, especially early in the semester, is always a good idea.
On her free time, Professor Muisener enjoys reading, baking and taking long walks. She also likes to travel with her family. When asked what is a must see experience at Stevens, she encourages sitting and enjoying the amazing view from Castle Point, especially at night.
Finally, Professor Muisener offers her advice to incoming freshman:
“Incoming freshmen should try to meet as many people as possible in and outside of class. They should get involved and choose a few clubs and student organizations that interest them from the many opportunities available at Stevens. They should form a study group with people that are in a number of similar classes. Study groups in addition to studying alone can be very effective in learning the material and making sure they do not miss anything. They should plan to study with the group on a regular basis and of course focus on studying and plan to go out later to chat. Some of the material in many of their courses, they may have seen before, but they should keep in mind that these courses are the building blocks for future courses and reviewing this material in a different context, will benefit them in the future.
