What would majors dress up as for Halloween?

With Halloween practically at our doorsteps, it’s about time to figure out what to wear. Between the traumatic beatdowns of midterms and chronic procrastination, many of us are left scrambling for a costume. Luckily, your major might help serve as inspiration.

Any Stevens Major
Costume: Whatever you can throw together at the last minute.

Let’s be realistic, most of our assignments get done like this anyway. What better motivator is there than an approaching deadline? Whether it’s a bedsheet with two holes cut out, a piece of floss and cat ears, or a cardboard box that you insist is creative, it’ll get the job done. Should anyone ask, insist it’s a prototype.

Mechanical Engineering

Costume: A SolidWorks loading screen

It’s crashed enough to give you nightmares. Few things are more horrifying than seeing hours of work go down the drain after forgetting to hit save. For the full method acting experience, refuse to respond to anything and mimic the whirring noise of an overheating laptop.

Civil Engineering
Costume: Your favorite concrete column

A rock-solid costume choice. Sturdy, reliable, and more structurally sound than anyone’s mental state after midterms. Extra credit if you can explain the theoretical load-bearing capacity of a column around your size.

Chemical Engineering
Costume: Walter White

Is that what we do after graduation? Who even knows? All you need is your hazmat suit, which you should have lying around, right under your performative khakis. The hardest part of the costume will be having to explain, one more time, that chemistry and chemical engineering are two different things.

Computer Science
Costume: A bar of soap or bottle of shampoo if we’re feel adventurous.

Please.

Cybersecurity
Costume: A fisherman

Gone phishing! All you need is a fishing rod and a piece of paper advertising a free iPhone or Walmart gift card as bait. Alternatively, you could offer a job interview. Given the current job market, that might get more bites.

Business
Costume: Patrick Bateman

Dust off the suit you use every other week and give it another spin. With carefully styled hair, you’re basically good to go. Just make sure to bring a bone-colored business card; it’s tasteful.

At the end of the day, Halloween is just an opportunity to have some fun, so there’s no need to stress out too much over finding the perfect costume. Whether you put weeks of effort into an outfit or assemble something an hour before showcasing it, it all serves the same purpose. Just make sure to enjoy the night. We’ve already gotten enough scares this October from our midterm grades.
