On Saturday, February 21, the Men’s Lacrosse team walked away with an 18-8 win over Springfield with the help of a hat trick from graduate student Will Labartino, and a double hatty from sophomore Jack Tenaglia. Following them were sophomore Adam DeCristofaro and senior Matthew Pergola, both with two goals each.
Labartino and Pergola started the game on fire, opening up scoring with Pergola first off a Labartino assist, followed by a goal from Labartino, putting them up 2-0 in the first three minutes. Springfield was able to get two points up on the board, but the Ducks responded, and by the end of the first quarter, DeCristofaro and first-year Ryan Jack both scored to keep their lead up by two. Springfield fought in the second quarter, opening up scoring with one goal, but Pergola and Tenaglia responded with two goals just 30 seconds apart, pushing the score to 6-3. The Ducks wrapped up the scoring in the second with goals from first-year Lucas Long and junior Connor Moore, notching Long’s first career goal.
The Ducks went into the second half of the game up 8-3, but Springfield managed to open up scoring for the third quarter with two goals to trim the Ducks’ lead to 8-5. By the end of the third quarter, Springfield had managed to put up one more point, but Tenaglia had scored a hat trick, allowing them to leave the quarter with a comfortable lead of 11-6. Still on fire, Tenaglia scored again, starting the fourth, followed by two goals by Labartino, only 33 seconds apart. Springfield got one on them, and the Ducks responded with the next four from Tenaglia, DeCristofaro, junior Jackson Penn, and graduate student Chris Ciccarello. In the final seconds, Springfield put one more goal on the board, but it was fruitless as the Ducks walked away with the 18-8 win.
This win gave the Ducks an early-season record of 2-0, following their win against Dickinson College on Saturday, February 14. They hope to continue this win streak at their game against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. in Oneonta, NY.
