Men’s Golf with strong individual performances in recent tournaments

Men’s Golf competed on October 2 and 3 at the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational in Flowery Branch, GA in a two day tournament. This tournament also served as the collegiate debuts of two first-years, Sebastian Beaver and Dillon Kim.

The first day, Monday, October 2, the Ducks found themselves in 14th place of 18 teams, with a team score of 304 for the day. With a par 71, Beaver and sophomore Austin Liao led the team finishing just three over. Tuesday, October 3, the second and final day of the tournament saw the Ducks place 13th, tied with Denison University, totalling 609 strokes. Senior Gus Vickers was one of just 10 to finish the second round under par, leading to his final score of 148, and placement as tied for 22nd out of 96 total golfers. Liao followed, tied for 30th, Beaver tied for 42nd, Kim tied for 66th and first-year Ben Slicker tied for 85th.

The team saw more success at the Drew Birdie Bash on Thursday, October 5. With par set at 72, Stevens, represented by first-year Maxime Debets, sophomores Punn Chittaratlert and Brock Dickson, junior Eduardo Terlaje, and senior Joss Hindin, fired just 23 over. Chittaratlert led the Ducks with a pair of birdies and 10 pars, finding a final score of just four over par, and tying for 7th out 44 golfers at the tournament. Debets and Hindin both had three birdies, finishing six and seven over, and placing in ties for 12th and 17th respectively. The day ended with the Ducks in second place out of nine teams participating and a final score of 311.

At the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic, which spanned over Saturday, October 7, and Sunday, October 8, the team secured 11th place out of 19 teams, after tying for 11th on Saturday with Catholic University of America. Their final score of 608 summed up both Saturday and Sunday’s team scores of 304, with Vickers leading the ducks at two over in the opening round and an even par on day two. Vickers also carded four birdies and an eagle, being just one of 13 players to do so. Both Liao and Beaver finished the opening round just three over, and tournament five and seven over respectively. Liao carded nine birdies, third in the tournament, and finished tied for 22nd, having shot five over.

Following a strong performance this past weekend, Vickers was named the Mac Freedom Golfer of the Week. This is his third weekly award.

This weekend, October 14 and 15, the team will participate in the George Cangero Invitational in Bethpage, N.Y., hosted by Farmingdale State College.
