In an email sent to the Stevens community, Sara Klein, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, and Warren Petty, Vice President for Human Resources, announced that Stevens will conduct randomized testing of the on-campus population beginning Wednesday October 6, 2021.
The email went on to explain the reasoning for additional testing, “Although there is no evidence that random testing decreases the spread of COVID-19 in a community that is fully vaccinated, according to Hackensack Meridian Health, Stevens’ medical advisor, and guidance from the CDC, it is apparent that our community is interested in further enhancing current safety protocols.”
Furthermore, this added layer of protection comes as the university begins to prepare for the winter months, when the COVID-19, cold and flu viruses tend to intensify.
On Thursdays of each week, randomly picked individuals of the Stevens community will be notified by email to schedule an on-campus testing appointment for the following Wednesday. The email states that Stevens plans to implement this additional safety measure through the end of the fall semester. Additionally, the regular weekly COVID-19 testing requirement for individuals with an approved exemption or who are not fully vaccinated will not be affected.
