Over the summer, a new student organization known as the Computer Technology Committee (CTC) was founded at Stevens. The organization consists of select students and professors who work to better prepare underclassmen for their future through informative events and lessons.
Aleksandar Dimoski, a founding member of the CTC, explained how the pandemic impacted the creation of the organization. “The pandemic actually pushed forward the creation of the CTC. As we all grew accustomed to life at home, it became clear to us that there needed to be a way of bringing students together in both a social and educational context in order to foster a sense of community, as well as pass on information to other students about things that we’ve learned outside of Stevens.”
Professor Dov Kruger initially proposed the idea for the CTC in order to better prepare students for their futures while helping them connect with one another. The organization currently has seven members, all of whom have different jobs within the organization. Although the current circumstances make it difficult to stay connected, the CTC holds meetings remotely to talk about decisions that need to be made. They all contribute to the event planning process, and each member has the chance to teach topics that they feel will benefit students as they progress through college. Dimoski added, “As an Electrical Engineering major, something that I want to teach is the use of basic PCB design software, which is something that I learned through private study and extracurriculars that I feel would be helpful to other students in related fields.”
The organization strives to bring students together and plans to hold events that will benefit students and prepare them for their classes, jobs, and internships. They focus on professional development and welcome students of all majors to attend their events; additionally, they urge that it is important during this time that the Stevens community stays connected. The CTC recently co-hosted the ‘Intro to Git’ event with the Software Engineering Club, and they plan to hold lessons in the future that introduce students to different programming languages.
The CTC recently announced their October event list that highlights six different events they will be hosting this October, such as a resume building event and an introduction to Java. All upcoming events can be found on the CTC website, where a Google Calendar is posted and updated regularly. Students can additionally sign up for events through this website and/or join the CTC Slack for more information.
