When in quarantine, look for inspiration. I hope to provide with my weekly columns something insightful to get you motivated to go out and do it – most importantly, take charge of your future. When the dark place is your mind, it’s hard to pull yourself out of it if you don’t muster the strength to battle your inner demons. So, let’s battle our inner demons together.
Some personalities that have a naturally strong willpower believe they are responsible for their own actions. Some personalities believe their lives are critical to those around them and are hesitant that an ill action might have an irreversible effect on those around them.
Taking control of your life after trauma might seem impossible. But let’s work on that.
Make a List
Sometimes it helps to make a list of your biggest questions and from that see what you can and cannot control.
Here are some of my own questions I wonder about once in a while:
- Why are all my friends into marketing?
- What skill should I learn or perfect in the next 3 months?
- Why do my dreams have the storyline of a horror movie? Literally, why can’t I dream of sheep, baby bulldogs, or even Baby Yoda?
Explore the list
Yes, all my friends are aspiring marketing experts and them deciding to be friends with an unpredictable finance friend like me is normal. It doesn’t change a single feeling of happiness that we get when we are around each other and hearing about all our small wins. They are my biggest supporters after myself and my family and I appreciate that. And only that.
Worrying about how other people perceive you to be is the worst possible way to spend your valuable time, even more when you’re isolated in quarantine in your own thoughts. It impedes your ability to take control of your life and decisions. But you can tread the life you want. You might have been born into financial instability, but you can change that. You are already seeking an education which is the first step and now you have to reach out to mentors and colleagues to guide you closer to financial freedom.
Be in Control
Remember: you are an unforgettable and lovable person. You will make some people happy and you will make some people’s blood boil. People will remember you for the way you make them feel and that’s a great characteristic to cherish. But what people admire the most about you depends on the mark you leave behind in their minds. Be the person your friend says, “When they want something, they go out and do it. I love them because they stand for who they are.” The first part can be anything, the last part is important so never forget that. You can be loved and you should love yourself for who you are before you attempt to control anything in your life.
We don’t get the liberty to live immortal lives but we do have the power to make the most of what we have. Everyone and everything in our lives are temporary. So, let’s try to make the most of what we can, bump standards as high as we can, and be as strong as we can. So, send that risky text, call your 1st grade bestie, tell your barista that your coffee was amazing today, and send that application for that job! When you put yourself out into something you are not comfortable in, you are telling yourself “I can do this.”
And when you are able to complete that task, your self-confidence goes up. The final step to be more in control of your life is to be confident and to always hold your head up high despite the odds — you will be a winner in the end because you did something instead of just waiting for the chance. Don’t lose hope — if you don’t have faith in your own discipline, who are you even trying to convince you’re doing the right thing?
Life will be forever too short to wait for the “right time” — so take control of your life, be the best you can ever be!
