While world leaders and medical professionals debate how much longer people across the globe must continue to practice social distancing measures and shelter at home, Stevens is hopeful that the student body will return to campus for the fall semester.
“We hope that the fall semester will be able to start with the normal face-to-face campus experience”, said Thania Benios, Director of Public Relations, “but of course we will prioritize the health and well-being of our community in making that decision.”
Stevens administrators are hoping to return to on-campus learning for the fall semester, but have yet to make a concrete decision. They will continue to create contingency plans for all possible situations and will notify the Stevens community of any updates as they receive new information.
Neighboring universities continue to discuss matters for the fall semester behind closed doors, however, a handful have made public announcements. Boston University is the first American university to publicly disclose that it is possible for their campus to be closed until January 2021. The University of Pittsburgh publicly stated that they are considering a hybrid semester, where students cycle between small classroom settings and online classes, but plans are contingent on social distancing regulations being loosened. On April 11, New York University’s Senior leadership told students they expect to resume regular, in person classes on campus but an official statement has yet to be released.
While plans to reopen universities are unknown, Stevens and its neighboring institutions are and will continue to form plans for all possible situations.
