How COVID-19 has affected graduating students’ post-graduation plans

In a small survey, the Executive Board of The Stute asked for anonymous submissions from graduating students on how COVID-19 has affected their post-graduation plans. Here are some of the responses we received.

“I planned to have secured full-time employment as an engineer. The hiring freezes caused by COVID-19 have caused me to instead pursue a tentative full time employment offer in an unskilled labor position.”

“I feel it’s a lot harder to find a full time because companies aren’t really focused on hiring. I also think that if people are being fired, how can I get hired? The amount of people looking for jobs is so much more than it would be normally. But I’m trying to stay positive and I’m hoping that after companies will want a fresh mind and will look for graduates.”

“My business has had to slow down operations, and I’ve had to accept not paying myself for the time being.”

“Multiple positions I interviewed for were cancelled and near all of the companies in my industry are in a hiring freeze. And since my main goal was to stay in the city to access the music industry and events that were occurring, I can’t even find a part time job to stay up north and have been forced to move back to central jersey away from all my connections.”

“Travel plans to visit family cancelled. Work start time impacted.”

“I had applied to both an internship and a job in a lab in my desired field, but neither are hiring now.”

“My summer internship before my masters was canceled.”
