Hoboken is on the “front lines of a war,” says Hoboken Mayor

While the city of Hoboken continues to push out suggestions and policies that are intended to flatten the curve, the pandemic continues to rage onward. Mayor Bhalla has released a “personal plea,” stating that Hoboken is at a “critical point.” The mayor continues to remind residents that these are not normal times that we are living in, and each individual must do their part and rise to the occasion.

The mayor also recognized the essential workers who continue to put their lively hood on the line every day for our society. Ordinary citizens are encouraged to use improvised face covers, while leaving N-95 masks and other professional personal protective equipment (PPE) to the actual professionals who have the highest risk of contracting the disease. In his plea, Mayor Bhalla references the successes of Singapore and the Czech Republic who have instituted strict face-covering regulations, and have suppressed the pandemic quite effectively. The same is possible in Hoboken. As we approach the predicted apex of this virus, the city of Hoboken wants to help save lives.

Hoboken will now require all customers and workers in essential businesses to wear face covers. This comes, the mayor explains, as New Jersey nears its predicted apex. In order to help the city of Hoboken to lessen the impact of this pandemic, it is necessary that residents take precautions to further prevent the spread of COVID-19. Mayor Bhalla would like to plea with Hoboken residents. The city does not require face masks, as he explains, but does require face covers. In his daily address, he offers some helpful tips on how to fashion makeshift covers.

The mayor understands that it may take some time to implement this policy, but the sooner it is in place, the better. Additionally, the mayor would like to ask each and every resident to curtail outdoor activities. As the number of cases in the past two days has increased by 41, the Hoboken community must do whatever it can to make it over the apex of the curve and begin reconstructing. A total of 225 cases within the city means that residents should consider staying inside very seriously in an effort to, “save lives and get back to normal more quickly.”
