After recent calls for donations of personal protective equipment (PPE), Hoboken has received 12,000 surgical masks from “HongKongers4US.” 10,000 of these masks have been sent to the Hoboken University Medical Center, with the remainder to be used by the city’s first responders.
All over the world, people have been in dire need of these protective devices, and they have arrived in Hoboken at an opportune time. The city recorded 13 new cases of the COVID-19 virus today, bringing the total up to 129 cases. Additionally the first testing station within the city of Hoboken has now been opened. An increase in the availability of testing kits has allowed the existing Riverside Medical Center to begin testing. The mayor would like to encourage residents who may need testing to go get tested at this new station, to better inform the city on the status of public health.
The Hoboken Public Library has published online resources to help answer questions related to this pandemic and our community. The website lays out the details of state and federal grants, eligibility for these grants, and information for regular citizens.
Finally, today is Census Day! The mayor’s office would like to encourage residents to complete the U.S. 2020 Census, as this document decides where federal funding goes around the nation. By simply declaring your residency in Hoboken, each resident can help to bring funding into the city and improve the quality of life. Hoboken remains under a self-isolation policy, so take some time as you are working from home to fill this out.
