For women’s volleyball, this is the second time in the last three years that they have captured the conference title.
In the MAC Freedom championship against Eastern (25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18), senior Shelby Stewart was named the Championship Most Valuable Player after registering 12 kills, 8 total blocks, and 7 service aces — a nice game from Stewart as her fantastic season continues.
Winning against Eastern (25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18), Stevens advances to the Division III NCAA tournament.
The Ducks have now won 11 consecutive matches and finished the season with a 20-11 (win-loss) season. Going on that type of streak, Stevens proved their resilience and strength as a team. A fantastic season for a resurgent Duck team that never gave up.
Moving on to the NCAA tournament, Stevens will play against Carnegie Mellon University in the Baltimore, Maryland Regional hosted by Johns Hopkins Friday at 12:30 p.m. This will be a true test for the Ducks as they will continue to keep fighting.
As for women’s soccer, they were ranked 18th in Division III entering this match. It has been a truly phenomenal season from the team and they capped it off with a championship victory.
In the MAC Freedom championship, senior Gabby Saade and sophomore Ally Wanzor scored fantastically to win the game over Misericordia.
Junior midfielder Emily Damrell was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after her performance in the championship match. Her ability to control play in the midfield was extremely valuable to the Ducks victory.
The Stevens women’s soccer team really dominated this year with a 15-3-1 record (wins-losses-draws). They are on a 13-match winning streak and have been completely superior.
Next, the Ducks will head to Middlebury, Vermont, to take on the University of Massachusetts Boston Saturday in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.
As Ducks, the fight for both of these teams continues and both teams are coming off extreme winning streaks that show their momentum. Let’s see if both can carry that momentum into one of the toughest competitions in the country.
