SPOILER ALERT: PERFECT FOR ALL THE HOT COCOA FEELS
Since Halloween is over, it is now the holiday season. With Christmas just around the corner, there is a new sappy Christmas love story out on Netflix called Let It Snow. Based on a book by John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson, I was ready for some dialogue that no teenager would say in real life and situations that the hopeless romantic can only dream of.
And boy was I right.
The movie centers around three love stories that intertwine. There are Julie and Stuart, a girl struggling to make a decision and a singing sensation, who meet when the train tracks get covered in snow, Addie and Dorrie, two best friends in a fight, and Tobin and Angie (a.k.a. the Duke), best friends but awkwardly crushing on each other through the whole movie.
The main veins of the story all center around the town’s Waffle House (which, missing its iconic W is the Affle or Awful House). All three stories eventually meet here, where an epic party is being thrown on Christmas Eve. Eventually, all of the stories end on a happy note, with each respective pair gaining the love they so desired at the beginning of the movie.
The movie itself is cliche, lacking anything new or surprising for the viewer to see. It’s all very formulaic and tries to get you to feel something for the characters, but in the end, it disappoints and fails to make any meaningful connections to the audience.
But still, the movie is a good way to just sit back, relax, and not think at all for about 92 minutes.
