Stevens Institute of Technology women’s and men’s cross country team took part in the 2019 Suffolk Invite, hosted by Suffolk University. Both cross country teams finished second in the men’s and women’s cross country runs, respectively. The women had a five kilometer race, whereas the men had an eight kilometer race. All of the Ducks’ runners put everything they had out there.
Starting with the women, using a 6:26 (minute:second) mile pace, sophomore Trinity Lundemo completed the five-kilometer course in 19:59 to lead Stevens’ eight female runners. Lundemo finished 6th out of 202 runners.
The Ducks received a cowbell in recognition of their second place finish. The Stevens’ women’s team finished in second out of 21 schools because the majority of the Ducks were much faster than most runners.
Junior Kristin McAtee was the second Duck to reach the finish. She finished in 20:11 finishing 9th. Freshman Rachel Pinho finished 14th with a time of 20:20.4. Sophomores Erin Miceli and Caroline Corr rounded out the top five of Stevens’ runners and finished 20:42 and 21:21, respectively. The top five Stevens runners were only separated by 1 minute and 43 seconds.
Transitioning to the men’s eight kilometer race, senior Dylan Peters completed the eight kilometer course in 26:48 to lead Stevens’ male runners. He used a pace of 5:23 per mile. Peters finished 8th out of 245 runners.
The male Ducks also received a cowbell in recognition of their second place finish. Similar to the women’s team, the men’s team finished second out of 24 schools and proved their toughness.
Senior Jake Catalano was the second Duck to reach the finish, crossing the line in 26:57, which put him at 10th out of 245. Junior PJ Gunther finished third for the team, placing 18th with a time of 27:12. Sophomores Trevor LaDue and Robby Russo finished extremely close to each other as the pair rounded out Stevens’ top five, which were spread by 42.2 seconds.
In addition to this, freshman William Schulz turned in an eight kilometer personal best to finish 27th with a time of 27:38.
This race was the final cross country race of the regular season for both cross country teams. Nevertheless, it may have been the Ducks’ best race as both teams finished second and proved how strong Stevens is.
